Practice Makes Perfect

My daughter is 9 years old and is so much like me that it scares me at times – and frustrates me to no end.

One of the things she loves to do is draw. She always has a sketch pad in hand and markers or colored pencils and is imagining up some distant land that she can make a book about.

Also, because she is my child, she gets frustrated…really easily.

Round and Round

Ever since I returned to the world of crocheting almost a year ago I have become a bit obsessed. I’ve wanted to explore all the different hooks that were available to me; different patterns, and especially the different yarns.

My family has gotten to the point where they want to ban me from being able to buy more yarn (good thing I know some of my favorites to buy online 😂). However, the one thing I hadn’t really tried was smaller, more artisan style yarns.

Most of the yarn I have in my stash comes in the traditional skein – where I can either find the end and pull my working yarn from the center, or from around the skein itself. Read More…

Hooked on a Feeling

I mentioned in a previous post how it was a bit overwhelming when I started back to crochet to learn how many yarn options were available. However, if that weren’t confusing enough, there are other important decisions to make: Decisions that are equally important. And that is what type of hook to use.

What’s Yarn Got to Do With It?

When I was younger and started to crochet, I don’t remember there being a plethora of yarn choices. I don’t even remember having crafty type stores like Joann’s and Michael’s, although I’m sure they were around (I’m only 40 😳).

I just remember having my little skein of yarn and crocheting and ripping it out and then abandoning a project. I don’t remember different thicknesses or feels or different hook types (aluminum, bamboo, that’s a whole other post). So, it came as somewhat of a surprise she. I came back to the craft at the wide array of choices there are on the market. Read More…

You gotta know when to hold â€˜em…

I’ve said before that I’m still learning. I started crochet when I was about six and practiced on and off through my early teens, but it’s only been in the last 8 months that I’ve really rediscovered my passion for the craft; and only about 4 minutes the since I started learning amigurumi.

Most of what I’ve shown on the page so far are the pieces I’ve completed and am super proud of. However, there are hiccups along the way.

Even with a good pattern and taking time to read and execute the design, sometimes it just doesn’t work. Today was one of those times.

The design was for a “dumpling cat.” However, it turned out looking more like a deranged Easter bunny.

Despite my best efforts, I wasn’t able to save this kitty. She had to be scrapped. I learned some lessons for moving forward; but, it’s always hard to give up on a project.
